Soldiers:

John Timothy Alexander was born about 1838 in County Monaghan, Ireland.  As a single 23 year old laborer from Waterbury, CT, he enlisted as a Corporal in Company F on September 14, 1861 and was mustered in on October 12, 1861. He was discharged with a medical disability on December 8, 1862 after the regiment served on Ship Island, in the original occupation of New Orleans, opposite Vicksburg, through the battle of Baton Rouge and in defense of the New Orleans area. Records indicate that he applied for a pension on April 8, 1863.

At some point he lived in New York City and used to parade in the Saint Patrick’s Parade along with the Ancient Order of Hibernians wearing green wool pants with a gold stripe while carrying a flag with a harp on it.  He was married to Mary Furlong and settled in Rensselaer, N.Y. where they had three children: Anna Palmatier, Rose (never married) and Catherine Godfrey. He worked as a laborer but suffered throughout his lifetime with chronic dysentery received during the war.

He died on August 21, 1895 and is buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush, NY. Hisdescendants include Ed Godfrey and Christopher Holms.
