Q. M. Nathan Bennett, a native of Bethel, Ct. His father was a graduate of Yale, and commenced the practice of medicine at Bethel, removing to Bridgeport, Ct., in 1852. Nathan I., previous to the war, had been a clerk in the Bridgeport post office. He enlisted in the Ninth regiment, Aug. 17, 1861, and was mustered, Oct. 30, that year, as quartermaster-sergeant of the regiment. On June 5, 1862, he was promoted regimental quartermaster, succeeding Quartermaster William W. Harral. who had been honorably discharged, June 5, 1862. Quartermaster Bennett resigned Jan. 23, 1863, and was honorably discharged. |
