Levi S. Drew of Bridgeport enlisted in the Ninth regiment on September 21, 1861 and was mustered on October 1, as a member of Company I. With experience dealing with horses as a hostler he frequently served as a courier for Col Cahill. On one occasion his horse slipped on the stones in the streets of New Orleans and he was thrown and injured. Fully recovered, he served out his term and was discharged on October 26, 1864 and died in 1886. His descendants include the Rev Lou Drew of Texas and his brother from Rhode Island.
