Private Dominick Burns was from the Ninth regiment CV, Company D which was made up of men primarily from Bridgeport. As there were five men with the last name Burns in Co D (four of them from Bridgeport and one from New Haven), he probably enlisted at a young age with a number of family members.
He was discharged on November 17, 1861 days before the regiment left Boston for Ship Island, MS. His tombstone was recently uncovered at Saint Augustine Cemetery in Bridgeport, a predominantly Irish American cemetery used mainly from 1850 - 1903. |
